Our new Henties Bay fishing excursion includes three full days of guided shore fishing, four nights of accommodations and nearly everything you need once you arrive in Namibia.
And there is a reason we chose Henties Bay.
We've been going there ourselves for years.
From the African Bush to the Skeleton Coast
One of the things we love about Southern Africa is how dramatically the landscape can change in just a short flight.
At Africa Hunt Lodge, our hunting safaris take place primarily in South Africa's Waterberg region of Limpopo Province. Mountains, thornveld, wildlife and the sounds of the African bush surround you.
Then fly approximately 2½ hours from Johannesburg to Walvis Bay, Namibia, and you're suddenly looking at something completely different.
The Namib Desert meets the cold Atlantic Ocean along one of the most unusual coastlines in Africa.
Head north from Walvis Bay and you arrive in Henties Bay, one of Namibia's best-known shore fishing destinations and our home base for this new excursion.
For our safari guests, that contrast is exactly what makes the trip so much fun.
Why Henties Bay, Namibia?
Henties Bay has long been popular with Southern African anglers because of the tremendous amount of fishable coastline surrounding the town.
This isn't a trip where you spend the day sitting at a resort waiting for a fishing charter.
We fish directly from the beach.
Each morning, we load the rods, tackle, bait, food and drinks into the vehicle and head out along the Namibian coast.
Where we fish that day depends on the tides, weather, ocean conditions, recent reports and what our local fishing guides are seeing.
Depending on the season and conditions, anglers may encounter species including:
Kabeljou (Kob)
Steenbras
Galjoen
Blacktail
Sharks
Other Namibian coastal species
Some days we may remain in a productive area for hours. Other days we'll move up and down the coast searching for better water.
That's part of the experience.
Three Full Days of Namibia Shore Fishing
We've designed the trip specifically to work as an extension of an Africa Hunt Lodge South African hunting safari.
The complete excursion is 5 travel days / 4 nights, including three full days of fishing.
After arriving at Walvis Bay Airport, we'll pick you up and travel north to our house in Henties Bay.
The first afternoon is spent getting settled, obtaining fishing licenses, organizing equipment, purchasing groceries and drinks, preparing bait and tackle, and getting everything ready for the following morning.
Then we fish.
Our normal fishing days begin around 6:00 AM with coffee and a light breakfast before heading for the coast around sunrise.
We'll typically fish until approximately 4:30 PM.
Afterward, it's back to Henties Bay for drinks, snacks, cleaning fish, washing equipment and the truck, dinner and plenty of discussion about who caught what—and inevitably who lost the biggest fish.
Then we do it again the next morning.
You Don't Need to Bring Fishing Equipment to Africa
We wanted this excursion to be easy for our international clients.
If you've already traveled halfway around the world with hunting equipment and luggage, the last thing you need is another oversized case filled with surf rods.
We provide the fishing equipment.
Your package includes rods and reels, standard tackle, bait and the other equipment needed for our fishing days.
Experienced anglers are certainly welcome to bring a favorite reel, lure or piece of tackle, but it isn't necessary.
We also utilize experienced local fishing guides, commonly called Gillies, who know this coastline.
They help us locate productive fishing areas and assist with bait, rigging, casting techniques, landing fish and daily equipment preparation.
That makes this trip equally enjoyable for experienced fishermen and guests trying African shore fishing for the first time.

This wasn't an excursion we selected from a travel catalog.
Our own Africa Hunt Lodge team has been making fishing trips to Henties Bay for several seasons.
It became one of those trips we looked forward to every year.
We enjoyed the fishing. We enjoyed the coast. We enjoyed getting away after a busy hunting season and spending a few days with rods in our hands and sand under our feet.

Henties Bay is easily accessible through Walvis Bay International Airport.
Airlink currently operates nonstop service between Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport and Walvis Bay, making the Namibia fishing excursion particularly convenient at the end of a South African safari.
The flight is approximately 2½ hours, and round-trip airfare often runs approximately $400–$550 USD per person, although fares vary by date and availability.
