Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest the South African Black backed Jackal. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is covered in Jackal. Year round, we offer hunts for awesome Trophy Jackal. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Jackal in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.
Our hunters typically hunt the South African Jackal in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Jackal Hunt. We typically hunt Jackal at night with spotlight, or you can sit at a blind near a water hole to hunt with a bow. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.
When hunting Jackal at night, we will drive in high-rack hunting vehicles with the shooter and spot light guide on the back. It is very cool in South Africa at night, so bring a jacket, gloves, scarf, etc to keep warm.
There are different kind of jackals hunted in South Africa, but the most commonly hunted jackal is the black-backed jackal. The black-backed jackal (Lupulella mesomelas) is a species of jackal native to eastern and southern Africa.
What do Jackal look like:
The black-backed jackal has black hair running from the back of the neck to the tail. The chest and underparts are white, and the rest of the coat is a ginger color. It has a small face, bushy tail, and long ears that point straight up.
Jackal Habitat:
Black-backed jackals are versatile in terms of habitat and can be found in many different environments, including savannas, grasslands, woodlands, and semi-desert areas. They can tolerate a wide range of habitat types, but are not usually found in dense forest.
Jackal Diet:
These jackals are omnivores, feeding on invertebrates such as beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, termites, millipedes, spiders, and scorpions. They also feed on small mammals like rodents, hares, and even young antelopes.
Jackal Behavior:
Black-backed jackals are generally nocturnal, but they can also be active during the day. When active, they are usually searching for food. They may be found in pairs, or in small family groups. During the dry season, a female gives birth to a little of pups in a concealed den, and they are cared for by both parents.
